Fairchild C123 Ponderous Polly

Ponderous PollyPonderous Polly,” is a Fairchild C-123K Provider (S/N 54-0592) which was the last C-123 to make it out of Vietnam and into Thailand at the end of the war.

In 1998, our aircraft was reclaimed from the desert at the Avra Valley Airport near Marana, AZ. It was refurbished and flown to the Schenectady County Airport (SCH) in upstate New York by its present owner, John Curran. The other crew members on the ferry flight were co-captain Dick Xander and flight engineers, Ray Zimmons and Mark Hinzman.

On 11 Novermber 2004, piloted by John Curran and Mark Riddell, “Polly” did a fly-by at SCH in conjunction with Veteran’s Day ceremonies then headed south to its new winter home at the Craven County Regional Airport (EWN) in New Bern, NC. “Polly” is currently on the airshow circuit througout the east coast during the summer and fall months. Please see our airshow schedule for more information.

The non-profit organization Northeast Aviation Group is responsible for the maintenance, flying and static display of Ponderous Polly.
